What can you use the app for?

Locql is a location based question and answer website. Users sign in and provide three or more cities they have visited. The user can add friends and submit questions as they work through the set up process. Users can supply answers for questions asked about their local area (or areas they are familiar with based on the details they provide during set up). The homepage presents users with a list of questions posted from around the world. Tabs are available so users can sort by nearby questions or their selected places. A search tool bar is also provided for users who are searching for a specific question or location. Locql also provides a list of contacts from the user’s Facebook profile that can be invited to join Locql.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Locql was created to provide users with a location based question and answer forum. The application caters to users all over the world. The company is currently based in Redmond, Washington. Although smaller locations are not as well covered, the application is frequently growing as more users sign up and provide their answers and questions. A mobile version is listed as coming soon.

What are the differences to other apps?

There are many generic question and answer websites available all over the web. What makes Locql unique is its focus on location based inquiries and answers. Users can find recommendations and suggestions based on the experience of others who live in or have visited their city.

How does the web app look and feel to use? uses a very low key, laid back color scheme that features light blue, white and hints of lime green. The homepage presents a list of recently added questions. Each question is presented with the location, how many answers it received and tags. The right hand side provides the user with a list of Facebook contacts that can be invited to join the Locql community as well as tags for trending cities, trending places and trending topics.

How does the registration process work?

A new visitor is asked to sign in to Locql as soon as they arrive on the homepage. There is no way around it because the site requires location information. The user can sign in with an existing Facebook profile by clicking the button that appears inside the pop up box. Next, the user is asked to supply three or more cities they have visited or lived in. Next, the user is given a list of recommended users that they can add (this step can be skipped). The third step asks the user to answer location related question that is chosen based on the cities they entered in step one. The user can see current answers supplied by other users if any are available.

What does it cost to use the application?

Locql is a fun, helpful way to get answers based on location, however without its users the site would have nothing to offer. The users provide more content by asking questions and submitting answers, making them an integral part of the Locql system. The creators have kept the application as appealing as possible by offering access to all users for free. Users can sign in through an existing Facebook profile (which is also free to create).

Who would you recommend the application to?

Locql could be interesting for users who have questions based on location as well as anyone who is very familiar with a certain geographic area. The website gives users a place to share their knowledge or gain insight about local businesses, activities, attractions and other location-based information.
